Starting 2012 with Arrests

In general, one wouldn’t think that starting the year with a big bust sounded like great news. But when it comes to law enforcement and illegal drug usage, a big bust is certainly something to be proud of. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was very busy during the past weeks, and with measurable success.

One story that the police will probably re-tell involved an undercover drug agent and a woman who sold him fake drugs! 22 year old Haley Flynn of Rockport met up with an undercover agent who said he wanted to purchase some oxycodone pills. Flynn said that she would only sell it in quantities of $1000 or more. The officers met up with her at the Rockland McDonald’s to make the sale.

Flynn took the money and went to a car that was parked outside, and then returned to the agents’ vehicle to give them the drugs. The agents discovered that they were not given the number of pills that they bought, and that the drugs didn’t look like Oxycodone. They made a call to poison control and were advised that the pills were merely an antihistimine. They followed Flynn to her home and accused her of selling them fake pills. She and her boyfriend said that they had been ripped off and that the money was missing. Other agents came in and arrested her for “theft by deception” and three counts of unlawful trafficking in oxycodone; they also found the missing money in a trash basket. They did not arrest her boyfriend.

Flynn said she was trying to pay her rent with the money.

In Bangor, Shaun Brown from Bangor and her boyfriend Robert Walker from Indian Island were charged with felony trafficking in crack cocaine in mid-January 2012.

Undercover agents had earlier purchased about $400 worth of crack cocaine from Walker. Because there was a large amount of it, his charge was elevated to a Class A felony status. He was also charged with possession of oxycodone. Brown was charged with a Class B felony because she assisted Walker with the transactions.
